The Confidence Man: Herman Melville

I honestly have no clue why I put myself through this book. The first 35-50 pages start off fairly strong, and you would expect some form of plot to get kicked off. However, the book just turns into this rambling fluff that would bore even the most mindless of fools. I would not read this book if you value your time. Once I had finished the book, I looked into it a little and lo and behold it is social commentary/satire of various writers from the time. Overall Score: 2/10

MOVIE: Speed Racer 2008

This movie is a masterpiece. The combo of a gripping plot, horrible 2008 cgi, and average writing combines for one of the best movies I've seen in a while. Almost every scene is green screened, the backgrounds have no depth, the cars are never explained, there's a chimp, what more could one ask for. The only thing that's odd to me is that all the characters are extremely shallow until about three quarters of the way through the movie. Overall Score: 8.5/10

Demian: Herman Hesse

Herman Hesse is a very good writer, hence his populatiry. There are some interesting ideas about wisdom, knowledge, and being a social outcast. Some strange stuff about the main character wanting to fuck his friends mom (thanks Herman). There are sometimes problems that arise when the MC is not a good person and possibly an unreliable narrator (he very much is in this book) where morons tend to take the types of characters literally, and view them not as porblematic, instead choosing to find them morally sound. Though some people who have poor reading comprehension skills may misinterpret the book, I found it quite enjoyable. Overall Score: 7/10
